What is a mole?

A common mole, or naevi, is a spot on the skin that when pigment cells called grow in . Although common moles may be present at birth, they usually appear later in childhood and increase during teenage years – most adults usually have 10 and 40 on their body. During pregnancy, moles often get darker and they can fade away from around the age of 50.

Methods of mole removal

Laser removal

How to best look after your moles

Sun is the main cause of skin cancers, so protecting your skin from the sun is crucial for skin health. Experts advise to avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm on sunny days, and to wear in addition to using regularly.

There are several types of mole and each type has different treatment . Melanocytic moles need to be excised and sent to the laboratory for histopathology. An excision of a mole involves injections with local anaesthetic: a sharp scratch and a burning sensation that lasts 1-20 seconds.
